A cyclone could hit the country this month. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has expressed such fears. On Sunday (October 3), the Meteorological Office said that one to three depressions are likely to form in the Bay of Bengal this month. One of those depressions could turn into a cyclone. At the same time, there may be more rain than usual this month.
The information was given in a long-term forecast on Sunday (October 3) under the chairmanship of Samsuddin Ahmed, director of the Meteorological Department and chairman of the expert committee.
The October forecast report by the expert committee said the country may receive more than normal rainfall this month. At the same time, 1 to 3 light pressures may occur in the Bay of Bengal, one of which may take the form of a cyclone.
Cyclone Gulab formed in the Bay of Bengal late last month. It entered the land on September 26 through Andhra Pradesh and Orissa in India. That cyclone did not have much effect in Bangladesh. However, there are fears that a cyclone could hit Bangladesh this month. However, it was not immediately clear when the cyclone would hit.
South-west monsoon winds (monsoon) may leave Bangladesh in the last half of October. Normal flow in the main rivers of the country may prevail in October.
The director of the Meteorological Department said that in September, the overall rainfall in Bangladesh was 29.5 percent less than normal. However, Khulna and Barisal divisions received normal rainfall. At the same time, the maximum temperature in September was 1.6 degrees Celsius higher than normal and the minimum temperature was 2.4 degrees Celsius higher than normal.
According to the department, the amount of rainfall may increase in the next two days. In the last 24 hours, the highest temperature in the country was at Chandpur, 35.4 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Dhaka was 35.2 degrees Celsius. The highest rainfall recorded was 101 mm in Tentulia. There are no warnings and no signals for the country’s inland river ports. The director of the Meteorological Department said that in September, the overall rainfall in Bangladesh was 29.5 percent less than normal.
