Outlook: When considering the mix of talent and returning contributors, there may not be a better team on paper than the one on Oradell Ave.
It starts on the defensive line with the likes of DJ Samuels, Sydier Mitchell and Christian Ross—as well as 2-way star and Delaware commit Dom Brogna—to give the Crusaders a dominant force at every position on the line.
The defensive talent is not strictly on the line, however. Its base 4-2-5 will feature several strong contributors in the secondary, namely Power 5 commits in Jaeden Gould (USC) and Jayden Bellamy (Notre Dame). Add in a tough LB in Malachi Mercer and the defense is as talented as any other in New Jersey and potential the Northeast.
Offensively there’s arguably even more familiarity. Bergen Catholic also returns 8 starters, including Notre Dame-bound QB Steve Angeli, RB Ryan Butler and 3 of its offensive starters from last year.
With an incredible mix of talent and varsity experience, this season’s edition of the Crusaders as the potential to be the most successful team Bergen Catholic has seen since its last championship-winning team in 2017.
